New Business and Tenders Consultant

Purpose

The New Business & Tenders Consultant will provide specialised, flexible support to Southern Hemisphere’s business development and tendering activities on a consulting/fixed-term basis. This role is responsible for identifying relevant opportunities, coordinating end-to-end tender processes, supporting high-quality proposal development, and improving internal systems to strengthen the organisation’s business development capacity. The consultant will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, combining research, coordination, writing, and industry knowledge to ensure that Southern Hemisphere submits compelling, compliant, and strategically aligned proposals.

Key Responsibilities – summary 

  • Identify and assess relevant tender, funding, and new business opportunities aligned with Southern Hemisphere’s strategic priorities, and support internal go/no-go decision-making.
  • Coordinate and manage the full tender pipeline, ensuring opportunities are tracked, deadlines met, and approved tenders are actively progressed to submission.
  • Lead and support proposal and tender development, including coordinating inputs, drafting and editing proposals, and ensuring technical, budgetary, and compliance alignment.
  • Strengthen and maintain tender systems, documentation, and knowledge repositories, and capture lessons learned to improve future submissions.
  • Compile and analyse tender performance data, producing monthly and quarterly reports on pipeline status, success rates, trends, and risks.
  • Support organisational visibility and engagement through LinkedIn monitoring and stakeholder outreach, and participate in relevant internal meetings and reviews

Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

Qualifications: 

Qualification in Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Development Studies, Project Management, or a related field. 

Experience:  

  • Proven experience in proposal writing, tender coordination, and business development.
  • Experience within consulting, NGO, donor-funded, or development sector environments strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with international development funders, NGOs, and multilateral organisations is an advantage.
  • 5 years’ Experience in the Not-for-Profit space.

Skills summary 

  • Proposal and tender writing/editing; tender pipeline coordination; deadline- and detail-driven delivery; multi-tender workload management; research, analysis and performance reporting; strong stakeholder communication across multidisciplinary teams; and solid tool proficiency (Excel/Google Sheets, document management and collaboration platforms) with working knowledge of the MERL landscape.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Practitioner

Purpose 

The MERL Practitioner supports the design, implementation, and use of monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning activities to generate credible evidence, strengthen learning, and inform decisionmaking. The role contributes to highquality, ethical, and participatory MERL work across projects, with responsibilities aligned to experience. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning activities across projects
  • Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Contribute to MEL system development, including indicators, tools, and reporting frameworks
  • Draft and contribute to evaluation reports, proposals, and learning products
  • Support or cofacilitate workshops, training sessions, and learning events
  • Coordinate or support fieldwork logistics, timelines, and stakeholder communication
  • Work collaboratively with project teams, clients, and partners
  • Participate in continuous learning and internal knowledgesharing activities
  • Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Politics, Research Psychology, or Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Relevant Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, or development consulting
  • Experience contributing to multiple projects, with increasing responsibility depending on level
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and report writing
  • Experience supporting fieldwork coordination, MEL systems, facilitation, or proposal development is an advantage

The role is suitable for practitioners with approximately 1–3+ years’ experience, with responsibilities adjusted according to demonstrated capability.

Internship

Entry Requirements

Our ideal candidates should:

  • Have completed an MA program in Social Sciences, Economics, Politics or Research Psychology (Note: both the coursework and thesis components should be complete)
  • Be innovative, organised and flexible
  • Be able to work independently
  • Have a research background (subjects in qualitative and/or quantitative Research Methodology)

Please note: International students are required to make arrangements for their visa application; however, Southern Hemisphere provides support where needed.

Internship Duration

The internship program is offered over a one-year period. Interns are required to work 40 hours per week.

Internship Benefits

Interns will be paid a monthly stipend for the period of the internship.

Interns will get invaluable experience and gain practical skills for development.

Project Coordinator Job Description (MERL Practitioner support)

Purpose

To serve as the administrative and project coordination backbone across Monitoring Evaluation Research and Learning (MERL) projects, ensuring efficient scheduling, tracking, reporting, and liaison, while acting as a core team member under the supervision of the Operations Manager and being answerable to the relevant project manager. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and enjoys working across multiple projects and countries.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Qualification  in Project Management / Business Administration or related field. Relevant certifications (CAPM, PMP, Prince2) are pluses. 
  • Experience: at least 3 years in project coordination or administrative roles; experience within Research, Consulting   or NGO environments strongly preferred. 


Relevant Experience:

  • Research, fieldwork management and coordination experience, ideally in monitoring, evaluation, research, or learning contexts.
  • Previous work in a research agency or consultancy environment.
  • Hands-on experience as a research assistant or fieldwork coordinator, or project administrator.
  • Experience supporting coordination of multi-country or complex projects, with exposure to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in coordinating project logistics, knowledge management systems, and administrative project processes.
