Connected Conversations – Groundswell to Governance: Climate Action from Communities to Policy

Climate policies, national strategies and international frameworks dominate global discussions on climate change. Yet a persistent gap remains between these top-down commitments and the realities, knowledge and priorities of communities experiencing climate impacts first-hand.

So how do we bridge that gap? How can locally led climate action grow into a broader movement for change, influence policy and strengthen accountability?

As part of Southern Hemisphere’s Connected Conversations series and our Change Catalyst theme, this dialogue will explore what it takes to connect grassroots climate action with wider systems and policy change across Southern Africa.

The conversation will consider three interconnected questions:

Building a grassroots movement: How can we foster, scale and sustain authentic, community-led climate action across Southern Africa?

Bridging the policy divide: What practical mechanisms can ensure that community voices, lived experience and local knowledge meaningfully inform and shape national climate policy and decision-making?

Strengthening civil society: How can local civic organisations be strengthened to act as resilient and effective conduits for climate justice, community voice and accountability?
